Yuchai's YC12VC High-power Genset Contributing to the Construction of the Republic of Djibouti

Recently, Yuchai's YC12VC high-power genset installed in the Historical Port Exhibition Center of the Republic of Djibouti in Africa was successfully started up in one process. It behaved well in various performance parameters and passed the customer's preliminary acceptance.

Djibouti is strategically located on the western shore of the Gulf of Aden in Northeast Africa and in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, the gateway from the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean. The bilateral economic and trade cooperation relationship between Djibouti and China is developing well. Especially in recent years, more and more cooperation projects have been implemented by China-invested enterprises in Djibouti. The Historical Port Exhibition Center of Djibouti is one of these projects. Yuchai's 12VC high-power silent genset serves as emergency power supply for the project.

Djibouti means "boiling steamer" in the local Afar language. With very little rain, Djibouti is very hot from April to October, with the average temperature of 37°C and the maximum temperature over 45°C during the hot season. To ensure the reliability of the genset, the genset is equipped with Yuchai's popular 12VC engine and high-quality generator, as well as high-quality and efficient 50°C radiator, high-strength genset base and SmartGen genset controller. The whole genset is installed in a large container, forming a low-noise genset.

The Historical Port Exhibition Center of Djibouti is one of the cooperation projects constructed by China and Djibouti under the "Belt and Road Initiative". To ensure the normal operation of the 12VC genset, the Marine & G-drive Engine Department of Yuchai assigned experienced service engineers to carry out the following work in Djibouti: installation and commissioning of the genset, inspection and handling of problems, technical exchange with the customer, and training on operation of the genset. It was particularly hot in mid-August in Djibouti. The engineers worked outdoors for more than 10 hours every day. Moreover, as no suitable machinery and tooling could be purchased locally, the engineers had to handle and fill the more than 500kg anti-freeze liquid and fuel by hand.

In such a harsh environment, Yuchai still won the customer's trust with attentive services. With the cheerful sound from the genset, YC DIESEL began its mission to contribute to the construction of the Republic of Djibouti, and also to promote the friendship between China and Djibouti to a higher level.
